Introduction
Before you can begin using HPE GreenLake Flex Metering, certain foundational steps must be completed to ensure accurate tracking and reporting of resource usage. These prerequisites help establish the necessary environment for effective metering and billing.
You will need to perform the following tasks for activating metering:
- If you are new customer or an existing customer, see Access Your GreenLake Account to create a new workspace or use an existing workspace for metering.
- Metering Subscription: The ASM (Account Service Manager) will have the NFR (Not for Resale) subscription key to enable and manage access to the Flex metering services.
See Metering Subscription for more details on the subscription types and their purpose. - Network Prerequisites: Ensure the following configurations are in place:
- IP Whitelisting: Allow access to IP addresses that correspond to your GreenLake cloud region.
- Domain Whitelisting and Opening ports for Outbound communication: Domain whitelisting ensures that only approved domains can be accessed, enhancing security and compliance. Opening ports for outbound communication allows applications to connect to external services over specific protocols.
Note: If your firewall or security system only allows whitelisting by domain names (not by IP addresses), then you should whitelist the wildcard domain entries listed here:- *.app.opsramp.com
- *.api.opsramp.com
- *.opsramp.com
- Deploy Metering Gateway: Download, install, and register one or more metering gateways. The metering data is collected by the gateway.
We recommend Installation of NextGen Gateway using OVA.
Once the deployment is complete, the metered gateway status shows as Connected indicating that the gateway is connected to HPE Cloud and ready for metering. - Create Credentials: Your metering gateway must discover Flex resources to collect metering data. To enable this, add credentials for each Flex resource in your OpsRamp account.
- Set up Infrastructure Credentials for the Flex services you will be using.
